It’s that time of the year again. The weather is cooling off, the leaves are falling from the trees, and the holidays are almost upon us. Generally, most go into hibernation mode, activity levels decrease, and diets become far less strict; but it doesn’t have to be that way. You can still stay active during those cold months and keep your body healthy year-round.
Take fitness classes at a local gym
While you may prefer to avoid the yearly gym membership fees, most fitness centers offer a variety of individual classes you can buy either in a package or by themselves. Yes, you may be used to doing your own individual workouts but working out in a group setting can be motivating and encourage you to push yourself further, as well as give you some accountability for showing up in the first place.
Find an indoor workout you enjoy
There’s nothing like fresh air to clear your lungs and sunshine is the best medicine, but cold weather doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy your workout. Find something you can enjoy inside as well, so you can get a great workout in the comfort of home. Whether it’s dancing, a personalized circuit, treadmill, or whatever you like, try a few things to determine what you enjoy. If you need help with ideas to include in your workouts, let’s have a chat. We’d love to help you!
Take a dance class
Dancing isn’t only fun, it’s a great workout too. Take a look at your local dance studio and see what classes they offer. You can learn a new skill and stay active all while avoiding the winter temperatures.
Focus on lawn chores
Raking leaves, picking up broken branches, preparing outdoor living spaces, and otherwise getting the outside of your home ready for winter can be a great way to get your heart rate up and your muscles working. Just make sure you wear the proper clothing for the temperature and take breaks. It’s often difficult to realize you need a break due to the cooler temperatures.
Take advantage of winter activities
You like a challenge, right? Take up a new hobby like sledding, skiing, or snowboarding. Don’t just jump right in. Make sure you at least have a good understanding of the basics in whatever you choose before you put on your winter gear and go. You definitely don’t want to have an injury!
Some love the fall and winter months, while others look at them as seasons that stand between them and a healthy lifestyle. There are ways you can take these months to try something new and continue to keep your body moving. Don’t let the winter blues get you down. Stay active and stay healthy.
